Bath beat 2010 Division Winners

May 25th 2011
Bath 5 Kingston Maurward 2

Bath hosted last year’s divisional winners, Kingston Maurward, in their first Federation league match of the season on Saturday 30 April. Despite the cool weather the Bath doubles pairing of Peter Miles and Paul Francis got off to a flying start with rooky Francis completing an all round break to leave Miles to peg out and win well within the time limit 26-3.

Meanwhile Richard Stopforth got into an unassailable position against Tim Dennis when time was called to take the match to 2-0. In the final morning match, Bath’s Mike Brown came from behind one-balled penult and rover to win his game plus one on time. Lunchtime score 3-0 to Bath.

After a sumptuous lunch and with the weather warming, the afternoon singles got underway. Jeremy Marshall found form in the afternoon, trouncing Stopforth by 26-8. All the other three games hung in the balance as Miles whittled away the forest of bisques that Jenny Dennis had against him. Close to time Francis built a good lead against Kath Burt and Miles narrowly beat Jenny Dennis 26-20 to clinch the match. The final two games went to time with Tim Dennis defeating Brown and Francis holding off a last turn revival by Burt to beat her by four. Final score Bath win 5-2.
