Dream Start to 2015 in SWF Short Croquet

April 13th 2015

Bath got off to a flying start this season with a double victory in this prestigious regional tournament which includes teams from Cornwall, Devon and South Wales.

Bath 1 playing in the top division tied at the top with Trendlewood (Nailsea). This meant the two sides had to decide the title with a sudden death shoot-out at the peg (croquet’s equivalent to the penalty shoot out). It was left to the cool-headed Peter Miles to claim victory against a very strong host team. During the day, Richard Stopforth’s four victories were the cornerstone of Bath’s success with Roger Hayes and Hester Henebury also securing valuable wins.

In Division 2, Bath had a more comfortable run to the title securing 11 out of 16 in their four matches. Paul Francis led the way with four out of four wins and Connie Stopforth three out of four wins. Richard Jelly and Norman Connor earned two wins each.

In next year’s tournament, Bath will have two teams in the top division – a first for the club.
