Parkstone Team Win Again

July 9th 2016

Bath’s Parkstone Trophy team continued its unbeaten record this season with another win against Nailsea II in the return match last Saturday at Nailsea. Richard Stopforth was unavailable on this occasion and Pete Miles was still willing to sit this one out but John Grimshaw was able to join Andrew Willis and captain Roger Hayes against the same three Nailsea players who had been vanquished 5 – 0 in Bath’s earlier home match on 11th June. The Nailsea lawns were surprisingly slow during the morning games, no doubt due to the heavy rain that had fallen earlier, but this did not deter Andrew Willis who beat his opposite number, Pat Long, by +23. The doubles pairing of Roger Hayes and John Grimshaw did not fare so well, with many silly, unforced errors leading slowly to a -15 defeat against Geoff Hughes and David Hunt.
Fortunately the sun emerged in the afternoon and the lawns speeded up, so that the Bath trio all won their singles games, not always without the occasional hiccup, but nevertheless this led to a 4-1 win for Bath and a 4 from 4 record for the season, with 19 games for and only 5 against.
