Nailsea Short Lawns

April 26th 2017

The club had two teams entered in the Nailsea Short Lawns Tournament on Sunday 23 April, one in Division 1 and one in Division 2. Due to an unfortunate mix up the proposed A team was entered by the organisers for Division 2 and vice versa. The event organisers could not be persuaded to change this around. This meant that in the top division the clubs B team of Hester Henebury, Henriette van Deth, Eleanor Easom and Lynne Passfield were competing against much lower handicap players. The team played very well with Henriette and Eleanor both winning two of their four matches. Hester and Lynne, in her first competitive match, performed well and both had some very close matches against experienced low handicap players.
The A team, consisting of Roger Hayes, Richard Jelly, Norman Connor and Folke Pope came second in division 2 with 10 wins, narrowly being beaten by Sidmouth with 11 wins. Roger and Folke both won three of their four matches.
Despite the mix up all players had an enjoyable day with good games and fine weather.
