‘Sunny Success’ for Intermediate Team
Our Intermediate Team journeyed to Nailsea looking forward to seven games in warm sunshine. As our previous game at Camerton, on 25th May, was played in the rain.
On arrival our hosts announced that the hoops had been newly reset and they did indeed prove a challenge with the words “I’ve blobbed again!” ringing around the lawns.
As lunchtime approached the pairing of Lynne Passfield and Tony Jackson were battling against Nailsea’s Rob Royffe and Tony Griggs. Despite trailing for much of the match Lynne and Tony came through for a one point lead at time. Martin Alabaster and Neil Pinker, both playing singles, worked tenaciously against their opponents to also gain wins. So the team now leading 3-0, with everything to play for, enjoyed lunch with the Nailsea team in the glorious sunshine.
The afternoon session saw four singles games played and the Nailsea team were not going to allow Bath a win without a determined effort to challenge our lead. All games went to time with honours split 2-2, with the final result of 5-2 to Bath.
We were joined for lunch by Terry, usually a member of Nailsea’s Intermediate Team, who is currently nursing a problematic shoulder, and Libby, who then stayed to serve tea and cake to round off a very enjoyable day.
