Internal Competitions – Finals Day

September 11th 2023

Last Saturday saw the culmination of the majority of this year’s internal competitions. The number of matches played on Finals Day was dictated by some members being in multiple finals and injuries. Roger Hayes had a good day winning the Alderwick Cup in the morning against Peter Miles and again in the afternoon Short Lawns final against Andy Wagstaff. Gill Clark and Ann Short had a very close match in the GC High Handicap final, going to three games, before Gill ran out winner 7-5 in the third. In the morning there was a very close encounter in the GC Handicap doubles before Elaine Morrison & Margaret Murray beat Sue Duncan & Tony Curson in two games, both going to golden hoop. Pete Miles made up for his morning loss by beating Philip de Glanville in the GC Level Play final.
Earlier in the week Margaret Murray had beaten Pete Miles in the GC Handicap Final and Pete had also won the Avon Trophy which was run as a league with 4 wins, ahead of Roger Hayes on 3 wins. The Secretary’s Cup (AC 14+) and GC Handicap League Finals are still to take place at a future date.
The day was rounded off with a social event, thanks to all those members who contributed and organised.
