Parkstone Qualifier Team On a Roll

July 25th 2011
Bath 5 Sidmouth 0

Bath welcomed Sidmouth Croquet Club to the Recreation Ground on Saturday 11 June for their second league match of the 2011 season. On paper, this had the potential to be a very one-sided affair and, unfortunately for Sidmouth, that proved to be the case.

Experienced Roger Hayes, got Bath off to the best possible start with a win in the morning singles fixture against Mike Taylor. His final few hoops and subsequent peg out were eagerly witnessed by members of this year’s ‘Introduction to Croquet’ course as they enjoyed their morning tea break. Andrew Willis and Peter Miles made it 2-0 to Bath at lunch with a win in the doubles against Peter Hills and David Temple.

Hayes’ good form continued in the afternoon with a comfortable victory against Temple. Bath captain, Willis, was pushed very hard by Hills despite a significant difference in handicap but eventually won out. Miles completed the clean sweep for Bath with a win against Taylor, making the overall match score 5-0 to Bath.

This match takes Bath to the top of their division in the South West Federation but sterner tests are still to come.
