Second Win of Season for Federation Team

July 24th 2011
Bath 4 East Dorset 3

A bitterly cold morning saw the start of Bath’s Federation match against East Dorset on 14 May.

Paul Francis and Peter Miles were not up to their previous form in the doubles and were soundly beaten by Peggy Nutland and Jane Matthews of East Dorset. In the morning singles Bath’s Richard Stopforth made two very good breaks taking both balls to peg and achieved a straightforward win over Roy Edwards 24-8. Mike Brown had another nailbiter against John Crisp with both players failing to find form. The game went to time with Brown winning by two. Lunchtime score Bath up 2-1.

In the afternoon games with the sun coming out, Nutland defeated Stopforth 26-15 and Brown crushed Matthews 26-6, both games ending quickly. With the score now 3-2, Miles found form against Edwards in a match where both players made good first breaks and had chances to win. Miles came through 26-14. The final game of Francis against Crisp went to a golden hoop with Crisp winning by one to gain a consolation point for East Dorset.
