Sun Shines but Bath Fail to Sparkle
It was a lovely sunny day, a beautifully manicured lawn in a stunning setting, with a glorious lunch provided by Kingston Maurward on Saturday 26 May in the Federation League. So what about the croquet….?
Morning honours were even. Richard Stopforth lost to Kingston captain Tim Dennis by 9. However Paul Francis & Peter Miles snatched a last turn, golden hoop win +1 on time in the doubles. The Kingston lunchtime tactics worked wonderfully well with all three Bath players seeing a drop in form in the afternoon singles. Captain Miles was first to go down, collapsing to a heavy defeat against Kath Burt. Stopforth lost to Jenny Dennis making it two wins for the husband and wife team. The emphatic victory was completed when Francis lost his singles game against Tim Dennis. Three Bath afternoon losses therefore left Kingston Maurward outright winners 4-1.
