Intermediate Team Continue Winning Run

July 30th 2012

Sunshine was promised for our home Intermediate League match against Weston-Super-Mare on Sunday 1 July, but for the first hour or so we played under steady rain and on slow lawns. The weather slowly improved and by lunch time Bath led 2-1 with two comfortable wins (including the doubles), and a narrow loss, all on time.

The team’s 3-1 winning margin in the afternoon featured two nail biting +1T wins, and a splendid pegged out win for Timothy Cantell.  Connie Stopforth in the afternoon and Cantell in the morning lost to a very strong 18 handicap player who is clearly on his way down the handicaps. In fact, Bryan Robson’s afternoon win resulted in his handicap falling to 16.

The 5-2 win means the Bath team now have 3 wins from 3 matches; furthermore, with Taunton and Nailsea still to play we appear to be the only unbeaten team in the SWF Intermediate League (Central Section).

Connie Stopforth (16) & Richard Jelly (12) vs Anton Gudiak (18) & Roger Buckley (10)  +11T
