Bath Teams Battle in Nailsea Short Croquet

April 29th 2013

A Bath Association Croquet team captained by Paul Francis played in Division One of the South West Federation Short Croquet weekend at Nailsea on Sunday 14 April 2013. Unfortunately one team member had to drop out at short notice and despite best efforts an extra player couldn’t be found which meant 4 games out of the 16 had to be forfeited. This unfortunately meant the team finished bottom of the table despite valiant performances from the remaining 3 players. Of the matches played the team won 6 out of 12, but with the 4 forfeited matches included it was 6 out of 16. Host side Nailsea won the Division convincingly.

Results :

Harry Dodge  3 wins out of 4

Paul Francis  2 wins out of 4

Richard Stopforth  1 win out of 4

On the previous day (Saturday 13 April) in wet and cold conditions a team captained by Peter Miles had more success in Division Three winning a creditable 12 out of 20, finishing second to a Nailsea team who won an amazing 17 out of 20. The team enjoyed the day and new match player Norman Connor gained a lot of valuable experience.

Results :

Peter Miles won 4 out of 5  (losing only to former Bath player Jim Field)

Norman Connor won 3 out of 5

Connie Stopforth won 3 out of 5

Timothy Cantell won 2 out of 5
