GC High Handicap Team Finish 3rd in Inaugral Season

August 23rd 2016

The GC high Handicap team finished the first season of this competition with an away match at Llandaff. Although the team battled well the “high” handicaps of the opposing team told with a 13.5 – 6.5 defeat. A number of the matches were very close and went to time or golden hoop. All six Bath team members contributed to the score including Karen and Alistair Byford-Bates who were making their first appearances in competitive matches for the club, having only started playing the game in May. The other members of the team were Sue Andrew, Jennie Saunders, Brenda Gray and Richard Mills. This defeat meant that the club lost out on top spot in the division to Cheltenham, although they had the satisfaction of beating them in an earlier match. The team finished third on countback with the same number of wins as the second placed Llandaff and fourth placed Camerton.

The objective of this new league was to encourage more players, including new members, to play competitive league GC. This was achieved with a total of 16 members taking part over the five matches.
