“Friendly” but Competitive GC Match to Round off Season

September 28th 2016

Bob Hart and Norman Connor came up with the idea of a “friendly” match between their respective GC Handicap teams. This took place on Monday and despite the rain the event was enjoyed by all. Normans team set the pace for most of the day and by early afternoon looked well on their way to a decisive win. However Bobs team fought back in the last set of four singles matches winning the first three to even up the score at 9.5 each with one game to finish. This was a nail biter going to Golden Hoop with neither player knowing the match result depended on them. Brenda Gray won 7-6 to give Normans team the win. The writer is keeping quiet on the manner in which the last hoop was scored. Thanks to Bob and Norman for providing the wine and Bob the apple pie.
The teams were:
GC Central North – Norman Connor, Tony Curson, Elaine Morrison, Lorne Loxterkamp, Brenda Gray, Mary Bertin and Miriam Bolger.
GC Central South – Bob Hart, Thacher Alexander, Philip de Glanville, Richard Mills and Peter Machin.
