Secretary’s Shield Semi-Final Result

September 5th 2016

This week the club’s Federation team were playing Hunstanton in the semi-final of the national “Secretary’s Shield” competition at the neutral venue of Wrest Park in Bedfordshire. The match was a close run affair with the outcome being decided by the very last stroke of the final game. In the morning session Bath were behind 2-1 with their only win coming from Philip de Glanville. In the afternoon session Paul Francis and Bob Hart both won their singles matches and with only the game between Norman Connor and Hunstanton’s Charles Ostler to be completed it was all square. Norman, one hoop behind with time imminent, was set up to run the equalizing hoop but in his last turn Ostler hit in from long range and separated the balls to prevent the hoop being scored and thus won by one hoop. This meant a 4-3 win for Hunstanton who now go on to play Middlesbrough in the final.
