Bath Federation North Team win the League (North Division)

August 31st 2017

The Bath Federation North team played Broadwas (Worcestershire), last year’s winners of the Federation League trophy at the club. Whoever won topped the Northern division of the League. Once more Bath won on the last stroke of the final game – played 5, won 5. By lunch Bath were 1-2 down having lost the doubles (Roger Hayes & Hester Henebury -5T) and Richard Jelly’s singles -11T with one win, Bob Hart +4T. Roger was untroubled by the Broadwas captain, pegging out +7. Hester won comfortably +13T and Bob never got into the game against a rapid improver (-16). All depended on the outcome of Richard’s error strewn match. Time was called as Richard went +1 and then quite inexplicably (not least to those who could bear to watch) committed an elementary error, leaving the balls in an easy position for his opponent to take the game at least to a golden hoop. The roquet was missed to give Bath the victory. The Bath team now play Nailsea South, winners of the Southern Division at Bath (date tba) for a place in the final against Abbey to be held at Sidmouth on 30 September.
